Aries Systems and DataSeer Partner to Advance Research Excellence and Transparency in Scientific Publishing

Aries Systems Corporation, a leading provider of workflow management technologies for the scholarly publishing community, and DataSeer, a developer of AI-powered research integrity solutions for institutions, publishers, and funders, are pleased to announce their partnership to elevate quality and transparency in scientific research.

Scholarly journals are often overburdened with time-consuming editorial checks on incoming submissions. Inconsistent journal standards, limited transparency, compliance discrepancies, and a rise in fraud can lead to expensive bottlenecks, post-publication corrections, and threats research integrity. To streamline this process and mitigate these risks, Aries Systems and DataSeer have partnered to integrate SnapShot, an automated editorial screen technology, with Editorial Manager® (EM), the leading manuscript submission and peer review tracking system.

Triggering an analysis at initial submission and revision in EM, SnapShot saves editorial offices time by automatically scanning every manuscript against a hierarchical schema of checks tailored to the journal’s needs and requirements. Available checks include data sharing, code sharing protocol, PID use, and more — generating fast, actionable report summaries for editorial teams and Author-ready returns in EM. Backed by a secure Large Language Model (LLM), SnapShot can immediately refine its criteria for checks based on feedback from the journal. Through this seamless integration, journals can screen submissions instantaneously within their existing editorial workflow in EM – streamlining manuscript triage, improving compliance with journal and funder policies, and enhancing the transparency of scientific research.

“Aries remains committed to offering integrated solutions designed to optimize workflow and enhance scholarly research through our ecosystem of connected technologies,” said Pierre Montagano, Aries’ Director of Business Development. “Our strategic partnership with DataSeer delivers automated detection and corrections at scale, supporting editorial offices and driving best practice in open science.”

“With SnapShot, we can assess nuanced, journal-specific criteria,” said DataSeer founder and CEO Tim Vines. “For example, SnapShot checks not just whether a data availability statement is present – but also whether data is actually shared, if the authors have used a journal-approved repository, and if the dataset includes the files we would expect given the type of paper. If the data isn’t shared, SnapShot evaluates whether the authors provided a valid reason. Integrating with Aries’ Editorial Manager system is a tremendous opportunity to provide support to a broad swath of the scholarly publishing community, and put efficient and effective research integrity checks within reach for more journals.”
