Emerald Publishing has signed its first transformative deal with the IReL consortium.
This progressive deal will run from 2021 to 2023, and it will enhance the publishing journey for researchers from all of IReL’s participating higher education institutions in Ireland, giving them access to all Emerald Journal content.
Building on Emerald’s goal of reducing the participation and access barriers to publishing open, the agreement includes publishing vouchers which can be used in all Emerald journals, Gold OA journals and Emerald Open Research; the open peer review platform that supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
Shelley Allen, Head of Open Research at Emerald Publishing, said: “We are delighted to have signed our first deal in Ireland to enable researchers to access all of our content and publish openly with us for the first time.
“These agreements make a real difference in creating more openness in research and we’re proud to partner with the IReL to support its members to ensure their research is fully and freely available without barriers.”
Emerald Publishing was recently recognised for their innovation, creativity and vision when they were awarded Independent Publisher of the Year and Academic and Professional Publisher of the Year by the Independent Publishers Guild.
Jack Hyland, IReL’s Manager, said: “Every year, researchers among our member institutions publish articles in Emerald journals across a wide range of disciplines, including business, education and health. We’re really pleased that with this new agreement, the authors will have the option to publish their work open access without any additional cost”.
IReL is a nationally funded e-resource licensing consortium providing access to leading online resources on behalf of participating Irish publicly funded higher education institutions.
