IET launches world’s largest website for engineering and technology videos

The Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) has today launched a brand new website containing the world’s largest collection of engineering and technology video content.

The new IET.tv platform includes over 6,500 multidisciplinary engineering and technology videos, with around 750 being added every year.

The new website aims to make it easier than ever before for engineers to share knowledge. Relaunched onto a new and improved platform, IET.tv provides an array of tools to manipulate, share and download videos, plus find related content through context-sensitive links. Webinar and webcast features will also allow users to take part in live Q&As.

Visitors to the new website can access content using search-friendly tags and metadata. The site is fully mobile, with tablet and mobile-friendly interfaces that allow visitors to access downloadable content wherever they may be.

Mark Reynard, Head of IET.tv. said: “IET.tv is the leading authoritative resource for today’s engineer. We have added large amounts of essential metadata for every video produced. This means we can offer very specific and targeted search results, and at the same time recommend related content such as journals, articles or books.

“Over time, we plan to create fully-searchable transcripts of the videos, allowing users to find anything contained in them through an online search.”

Tim Hamer, IET Director of Knowledge Services, said: “This is a great step forward in the way engineers can share knowledge. Text-based information remains an essential part of learning, teaching and research, but there is a growing trend towards using video as a communication and learning tool. We believe that the new IET.tv website will be a valuable new resource for engineers, making it much easier to appreciate and share new ideas across the global engineering community.”
