IOP Publishing and Thomson Reuters Collaborate to Manage Significant Growth in Scientific Article Submissions

The IP & Science business of Thomson Reuters, the world’s leading provider of intelligent information for businesses and professionals, announced today that it is working with IOP Publishing, part of the Institute of Physics, to provide its Thomson Reuters ScholarOne® solution for handling the Institute’s substantial increase in article submissions.

IOP Publishing has undertaken a comprehensive review of its editorial provisions in the last year. The decision to integrate ScholarOne, the industry-leading, peer-review management solution for publishers, into its submission process is in line with the company’s mission to provide the best possible publishing service to its authors, referees and publishing partners. IOP Publishing will use ScholarOne to quickly bring its communities additional functionality, such as deep links for referees and authors and improved access for board members and editors.

“The decision to move from our existing internal system to ScholarOne came in response to our company’s significant growth in submissions. The number of articles we publish has almost doubled in recent times and that number will continue to grow,” said Graham McCann, head of product management and innovation, IOP Publishing. “We have selected Thomson Reuters to support our growth and to provide our publishing partners with the best possible experience in managing the peer-review process.”

ScholarOne ManuscriptsTM, a suite of tools and services from ScholarOne, will assist IOP Publishing by allowing for a more flexible approach to resource management and providing a wider variety of management options of peer review for partner titles. The solution will be implemented on a journal-by-journal basis throughout 2013.

”We are pleased to join forces with IOP Publishing during this remarkable period of innovation and scholarship in the physical sciences,” said Gordon Macomber, managing director of Scientific & Scholarly Research at Thomson Reuters. “As the world leader in the publishing of academic management solutions, Thomson Reuters is committed to ensuring that IOP Publishing can serve the fast-growing physical science fields with best-in-class technology that simplifies the peer review process for IOP’s internal team and their world class researchers and scholars.”
