IOS Press selects Semantico to design new journals and book platform

Semantico, suppliers of digital publishing solutions to the scholarly and professional market, has been selected by IOS Press, an independent, international STM publishing house, to design and deliver a new publishing platform to support their growing collection of STM books and journals. IOS Press publishes more than 100 international journals and approximately 75 book titles each year on subjects ranging from computer sciences and mathematics to medicine and the natural sciences.

Semantico will design and engineer the new content platform with emphasis on a simpler, more elegant content delivery infrastructure, with improved discoverability and precise search functionality to create an excellent user experience. Semantico has taken an integrated approach to design ensuring a consistent look and feel for the IOS Press journals, books and website interfaces. In 2015 the IOS Press journals will migrate away from their current MetaPress platform and alongside their books will be incorporated into the newly designed comprehensive and cohesive online publishing platform.

Semantico will use their industry-respected products Scolaris and SAMS in the build. Scolaris is next generation integrated content platform, engineered to manage the complexities of journals, ebooks, reference works and dictionaries. Scolaris promotes discoverability by providing intelligent, full-text search which, allows rich taxonomy support for faceted search and browse.

SAMS, Semantico’s renowned access management system will be used for ecommerce and to generate greater subscription opportunities for IOS Press. SAMS is the most widely used access management system in its class and integrates seamlessly with Scolaris to control access across users and institutions, as well as providing a host of flexible options for business models and optimal monetisation of content.

“Following Metapress’ decision to close their platform in 2015, we looked at alternative suppliers. The proposal from Semantico made sense and fits perfectly with our future strategic direction in terms of delivery for our customers. By appointing Semantico to migrate our content and implement a new platform, we are confident that the current services for our customers will not be interrupted,” said Popke Huizinga, Director of IOS Press.

Lorraine Ellery, Business Development Manger, Semantico added: “I am delighted that IOS Press has chosen to partner with Semantico and we look forward to building a long-term partnership providing a future-proof publishing solution that meets the ever-changing needs of their customers; an area Semantico truly understands.”
