Karger Publishers Signs Open Access Deal in Germany

Karger Publishers’ Publish and Read offer for German academic institutions has been signed for the years 2021-2023.

Karger Publishers has offered German academic institutions a Publish and Read agreement covering the years 2021-2023. The Open Access (OA) agreement was negotiated, coordinated, and signed by the Bavarian State Library (Bayerische Staatsbibliothek, BSB) on behalf of higher education and research institutions across Germany.

The new three-year deal builds on the successful introduction of Karger Publishers’ Publish and Read model in 2020, offering consortium members not only access to all Karger e-Journals, but also OA publication in Karger Publishers subscription journals for affiliated researchers at no additional cost to the authors. The Publish and Read agreement receives financial support from the German Research Foundation (Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft).

Daniel Ebneter, CEO at Karger Publishers, comments: “Karger Publishers has been a long-time trusted partner of German academic institutions. We are pleased about the Publish and Read deal in Germany. It is an acknowledgement of our dedicated efforts towards a sustainable transition to OA.”

Hildegard Schäffler, Head of Serials and Licensing at BSB, says: “We are delighted that we have been able to work with Karger Publishers on the transformation of our long-standing Karger Publishers Journals consortium into an innovative Publish and Read agreement, and see this as an important milestone in the transition to full Open Access.”
