Wiley Achieves Milestone with 1,000 Scholarly Journals Now Operating on Research Exchange Platform

Wiley, one of the world’s largest publishers and a trusted leader in research and learning, today announced that 1,000 scholarly journals have successfully transitioned to its Research Exchange platform, representing more than 50% of the company’s journal portfolio. This significant milestone demonstrates Wiley’s commitment to creating industry-leading solutions that prioritize research integrity, agile development, and support a modern publishing infrastructure.

Research Exchange is Wiley’s comprehensive scholarly publishing platform that integrates submission, AI-powered screening, and peer review workflows into a unified system. Wiley achieved this milestone following an ambitious, scaled migration program which began in December 2023.

“Reaching 1,000 journals on Research Exchange represents a pivotal moment in our ongoing commitment to evolve with the research community and demonstrates how we’re innovating with integrity and efficiency at the forefront,” said Liz Ferguson, Senior Vice President of Research Publishing at Wiley. “Our modern and intuitive platform aims to significantly alleviate the administrative burden of publishing for researchers so they can focus on what they do best – delivering life-changing findings that move our world forward.”

Platform Benefits
Currently serving more than 350,000 unique users, Research Exchange supports journals across a wide variety of fields, and delivers the following key benefits:

  • Streamlined Author Experience: AI-powered workflows make submission fast and intuitive for researchers through a single, consistent interface that streamlines processes and reduces administrative burden, generating strong satisfaction (92% of authors surveyed in the past year have found the system easy to use). Authors are also automatically identified for Transformational Agreement eligibility at the point of submission, with open access coverage and agreements clearly displayed upfront.
  • AI-Powered Screening: Automated screening tools are fully integrated into the publishing workflow, helping maintain research integrity standards while reducing manual review time. The platform conducts 25 comprehensive checks at the initial screening, completing the process in under 10 minutes. Any potential concerns are automatically flagged for further review. This screening stage helps editors by filtering out papers with major scope or integrity issues. In May 2025, the platform’s submission and screening capabilities won a Silver EPIC Award from the Society for Scholarly Publishing, recognizing excellence in research integrity tools.
  • Consistent Quality Standards:Best-practice editorial workflows establish and uphold standards, create greater transparency and facilitate systematic oversight throughout the publication process. Modern workflows reduce inefficiencies, enabling greater focus on research, more effective quality control and supported editorial decision-making.

Community Engagement
Wiley is expanding user community feedback channels to inform future platform development. The company is forming a new Product Advisory Board of external stakeholders, including publishing partners and editors, that will provide direct input into platform development needs and priorities. In addition, Wiley convenes regular roundtable sessions for editors to discuss platform benefits, ongoing improvements and to address questions. The company has received more than 3,300 inputs via these and other channels during the transition process. Dedicated teams systemically review and categorize each submission to inform ongoing platform development, resulting in 46 major updates to the platform since the start of the year, ensuring Research Exchange continues to evolve with community needs.
