Emerald launches L&D programme to boost cases teaching skills

Emerald Publishing has launched a suite of free teaching modules to help academic faculty boost their skills in incorporating cases into their classroom teaching.

The online modules cover a range of topics including how to write and teach case studies to ensure that faculty are equipped with the skills they need to confidently introduce cases into their classroom teaching.

Using a mix of written learning materials and video content, the modules guide faculty through getting the most out of using cases and how to deal with challenges in teaching cases. This includes globally-relevant training notes, scenario planning and Q&A support, as well as video interviews with faculty sharing real life examples of how they have successfully used cases in teaching.

Natalie Jacobs, Head of Product at Emerald Publishing, said: “Developing the teaching modules as part of our eCases collection was a natural innovation for us. While we recognise that cases are a popular way to blend academia and practice, in some situations the use of case studies in teaching is a new method and with that brings a gap in the skills and experience required to effectively incorporate cases into the classroom.

“That is why we have designed our teaching modules with simplicity and usability in mind so that we can provide support to our customers to help them enhance the learning experience for students around the world.”

Incorporating cases into teaching offers students the opportunity to explore real world challenges in the classroom environment, allowing them to test their assumptions and decision-making skills before taking their knowledge into the workplace.

Emerald specialises in case content from, and about, emerging markets and regions which are traditionally underrepresented in teaching case collections, but which offer unique insights.

The teaching modules are free to access by registering with Emerald’s learning hub here: https://caseshub.emeraldgrouppublishing.com/
