Today, the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP) updated U.S. policy guidance to make the results of taxpayer-supported research immediately available to the American public at no cost. In a memorandum to federal departments and agencies, Dr. Alondra Nelson, the head of OSTP, delivered guidance for agencies to update their public access policies as soon as possible to make publications and research funded by taxpayers publicly accessible, without an embargo or cost.

The BMA has appointed Peter Vicary-Smith as the new chair of BMJ and a non-executive director of the BMA. Mr Vicary-Smith retired from the role of Chief Executive with Which? in 2018 and he is currently a non-Executive director at Northumbrian Water and at Oxford Brookes University.

The amount of new research published open access (OA) in Cambridge’s Transformative Journals (TJs) leaped by almost 70 per cent in 2021. Cambridge University Press revealed the figure in an update to the cOAlition S group of funders on the progress of its TJ programme.
